The Dubai edition of the LG SolarDOM Regional Cooking Competition witnessed a keen contest as amateur culinary enthusiasts battled it out for regional supremacy by whipping up appealing combinations of starters, soups and main course meals.

Held at Al Bustan Rotana Hotel, on Wednesday, September 20th, the LG SolarDOM Regional Cooking Competition has been one of the highly anticipated culinary events of the region and attracted an overwhelming response. The competition, which travels next to Saudi Arabia, Iran and South Africa, has captured the imagination of cookery lovers in the region.

Under the watchful eye of celebrity chef Osama El Sayed (of Dubai TV fame) and an expert panel of judges, contestants raced against time to compete a place for themselves in the November 15 final, to be held in Dubai.

Competitors could participate in either individual or team categories. As the spectators watched in eager anticipation, the judges selected Nagwa Marfouz, Hayat Fahim and Rekha Gazaria as the winners in the Individual category. In the Group category, the husband-and-wife team of Amalia and Dragol Parasiv beat all competition to grab the top spot.

Top chef Osama El Sayed evaluated the contestants on the basis of simplicity, taste, presentation style and preparation time. “The level of expertise and among the contestants was breathtaking,” said El Sayed later. “I am glad that everyone – judges, participants and the audience – had a great time today. I now look forward to the final competition when the best of the best will be selected.”

“I have never participated in a competition of this scale before,” commented Dubai resident Nagwa Marfouz, one of the winners in the individual category. “I was aware that the competition would be fierce but I remained determined to capture the top position. It will be an honour to represent the UAE when the regional final takes place.”

Winners received SolarDOM products, while the final competition on November 15th will see cash prizes being handed out to the grand prize winners.

The next-generation LG SolarDOM is the world’s first counter-top light-wave oven to combine both conventional oven and microwave oven technologies. The oven outsmarts conventional cooking appliances in terms of design as well; and acknowledgment confirmed by the iF Design Award, one of the world's most pre-eminent design achievements.
